Inspired by the vibrant energy of nature and the delicate beauty of blooming flowers, Synergraphic embarked on a design journey to capture the essence of movement and vitality in their artwork called, "Dancing Poppies". A fusion of art and history, "Dancing Poppies" emerges as a symbol of remembrance and resilience of the human spirit. This artwork finds its home within the hallowed halls of the Changi Chapel and Museum, where it stands as a beacon of hope for those who endured the trials of Changi Goal during the Japanese Occupation.
The design process commenced with immersive research, as the lead artist, Florence Ng, delved into the graceful sway of poppy fields and the dynamic interplay of light and shadow. Rich hues of crimson, golden ochre, and verdant green were meticulously selected to evoke the warmth of a summer's day. Layers of texture were added, creating depth and dimensionality that invited viewers to immerse themselves in the scene. The installation features kinetic elements that capture sunlight and move together with the wind.
Beyond its visual splendor, "Dancing Poppies" offers a evocative reminder of the resilience of the human spirit. Each petal whispers tales of courage and fortitude, echoing the steadfast will of those who found solace and strength amidst adversity. The red poppy is a significant symbol of fallen troops who have sacrificed their lives in the battlefields. The 85 mini poppies placed around the base of the installation pay homage to the years that have passed since the start of World War Two in 1939.
