CHANCE CHANCE CHANCE CHANCE Synergraphic x Gin&G In Chance, New Possibilities Unfold Introducing CHANCE: A Glass Light Sculpture by Gin&G in Collaboration with Synergraphic Design CHANCE is a glass light sculpture constructed from layers of sheet glass off-cuts, designed by Gin&G and fabricated in collaboration with the local glass company Synergraphic Design. The light sculpture was initially commissioned for FURA, a plant-forward restaurant and bar that reimagines the future of food sustainability, and which spatial interiors were designed by Gin&G. FURA’s ethos of partnering with local food supply vendors to promote sustainability in food practices inspired Gin&G to extend this vision into the design of the interiors and their objects. Gin&G reached out to industry partners, the regular suppliers of various building materials, and invited them to collaborate in reimagining off-cuts as a constructive material. In partnership with Synergraphic Design, a company also dedicated to promoting sustainability through innovative glass craftsmanship, Gin&G sourced sheet glass waste from construction projects that would otherwise end up in landfill. Synergraphic supplied these glass off-cuts, which were then repurposed, cut into organic geometric shapes, and layered together – giving them new life as beautiful light sculptures. The name CHANCE reflects the unpredictability of each light sculpture’s composition, as the configuration of each piece results from a combination of uncontrollable factors. The type of available off-cut glass material varies at the time of fabrication, as do the unique permutations of the glass layers, which means that each light sculpture is uniquely different and entirely shaped by 'chance'. CHANCE reimagines the perception of off-cut materials and celebrates their potential to be transformed into objects of beauty and meaning. Beyond its prototype debut at FURA, CHANCE has been showcased at EMERGE@FIND, a design fair curated by Design Anthology in 2023, and at the Design Singapore Showcase at BOUTIQUES The Gifting Edition in 2024. About Gin&G Gin&G is a Singapore-based design firm focused on creating spaces imbued with beauty and meaning, spanning object design, residential, and commercial interiors. Co-founded by architects Georgina Foo and Genevieve Ang, the practice prioritizes timeless, story-rich design. Mr Tay was inspired by his fond memory of Chingay parade passing by at Block 1 Cantonment flat which is now The Pinnacle@Duxton. Drawn to the clean lines and geometric pattern of our HDB flats, this collection of patterns mirror the many faces of our HDB blocks in Singapore that played a key role in our nation building. DANCING KUEH Dancing Kueh is a new arrangement from original Kueh Tile design. The 7 different types of Kuehs were local favourites that we grew up with. These Kuehs were also my family’s daily breakfast staples sold at doorstep by a woman in her sixties. From door to door, she would be calling out “kueh lai lo” (kuehs are here) to her regular customers. Our bond with her and the comforting food made me felt right at home. KUEH TILE Living in Tiong Bahru, whenever my friends are over for the weekend tea, I always get the kuehs from the popular family-run ‘Galicier’ kueh shop situated just a block away. Friends always say that their Kueh Dadar is the best in town. Inside this design, you can find all the kuehs that we all love – kueh tutu, pineapple tart, kueh dadar, peng kueh, dumpling, otah-otah and also ondeh-ondeh. VINTAGE TILE VINTAGE TILE’ cushion cover is inspired by tiles on five foot ways of conserved shop houses in Katong, Little India and Chinatown. These charming handmade vintage tiles are found on the five foot ways of conserved shop houses in Katong, Little India and Chinatown. This design is inspired by ‘hopscotch’ played by kids at the void deck when computer games were not around yet! PERANAKANIA ‘PERANAKANIA’ coasters is a celebration and tribute towards artists’ late grandma and his mum, who worked hard to bring the family up during the early days. This Peranakan design with the Phoenix nesting on the peony garden is my tribute to mum and granny who worked very hard to raise us to the best that they could. Synergraphic Design PTE LTD (Synergraphic) recently took part in SIDFest (Singapore Interior Design Festival) 2021. Located in National Design Centre, SIDFest 2021 celebrated the theme of Optimised/Optimism and invited designers to create work using the tools of their trade. Located in National Design Centre, SIDFest 2021 celebrated the theme of Optimised/Optimism and invited designers to create work using the tools of their trade. Among its aims is to celebrate the innovation and creations of the design community even through this challenging time. There, Synergraphic unveiled its latest work in collaboration with Yume Architects: Kasumi Shizuku. Kasumi, meaning distant mist and Shizuku, meaning droplets, are glass pieces inspired by natural elements. The base artwork is painted meticulously by hand and manipulated using mathematical algorithms. The end result is a beautiful piece with a unique human-machinic touch that changes under different lighting conditions. As the light shifts, the landscape changes with it. Synergrahic’s Director, Sara Ang, also presented via a virtual webinar, “Transforming Spaces with Glass & Art”. She presented valuable insights on the material of glass and its new possibilities for design, having to use it with other medium.
