- The Gift of Partition
Master the art of using partition walls Home / Design Ideas / The Gift of Partition The Gift of Partition Master the art of using partition walls Just like any other homeowner, you’d probably opt for a bigger house. As if it’s never enough – you want more room for your furniture and privacy for each of you in the family. Additional space also means being able to do as many rearrangements as you want, any time you like. How nice would that be? Well, if what you want is more room, then you can have it next week (or sooner!). A full-blown house renovation is even unnecessary. What you need are partition walls and mastery in using them to maximize the space you have. 1/1 CONSTRUCTION, FLEXIBILITY Partition walls are usually constructed from brick or blockwork, but they can also be framed. Framed partition walls, also known as stud walls, can be constructed from timber, aluminium, or steel frames clad with fibreboard, plasterboard, or metal boarding. You may also have them glazed. Of course, glass is a superstar in partitions! Since partition walls are non-load bearing, they provide good flexibility especially if they are lightweight, framed systems. As mentioned earlier, no need for a dramatic renovation, as wall positions can be changed easily. Depending on the construction you go for, you may move all the components of your partition wall to a different location. WAYS TO PARTITION • Fixed or sliding glass partitions. Translucent partitions double as interior windows and they go well with the rest of your furniture. You can have a clear view of the rooms. To add, you may also go for the type you can pull shut to block out kitchen noises and fumes. •Outline with levels. Want to divide a space? Set up distinct boundaries between zones through varying the floor levels. For example, a step-down living area can separate your lounge from the rest of your home. Besides differing levels, wood-and-glass partition can also visually demarcate two separate zones. •Accentuate with screens. If you want to add to the aesthetic appeal while creating a room within a room, you can set boundaries with wooden slatted screens that let through light, views, and foot traffic. Swivelling is easy to segregate rooms when required. 1/1 Wait, there’s more Framed constructions also come with insulation, which prevents the passage of sound or fire between adjacent spaces. You just have to make sure that the top and bottom of the wall are properly sealed against the floor and ceiling. In case you want to avoid the inconvenience of installing permanent screens, choose classic portable ones of etched glass or carved wood. See, you can have more rooms next week (or sooner). Happy partitioning! Origami-Inspired illuminated Water Feature. The brief was to create a sculpture that appeared like a lantern that was floating on the water. Based on the concept of 16 squares and 32 triangles, our creative team identified a form that would look beautiful and delicate on the reflecting pool of Scotts Square Condominium. The brief was to create a sculpture that appeared like a lantern that was floating on the water. Based on the concept of 16 squares and 32 triangles, our creative team identified a form that would look beautiful and delicate on the reflecting pool of Scotts Square Condominium. Joining the panels at many angles was not an easy feat, and required the skill of our craftsmen to get the angles of the glass right, piece by piece. aboutTheProject Concept Can glass be folded? Can something so brittle be made to look like it was origami-ed into a life-sized paper sculpture? Florence was approached to create an artwork that could be lit in the night for the water feature of a luxury condo at Scotts Square in the Orchard Road shopping belt. She was however inspired to create origami sculptures made of white opalescent glass. At night, these would be lit from within and glow like floating lanterns in the dark. Undaunted by the idea of translating the Japanese art of paper-folding into a medium as hard as it was exacting to construct, Florence decided to form glass into the shapes you see here, which are, as she describes, “the essence of origami’s simplicity.” The challenge, was that “as glass cannot be folded like paper, we crafted the glass panels such that each were very precisely measured, then cut and glued one piece at a time so that each joint would fit perfectly, which is to say, invisibly, and resemble a paper fold.” Intrigued by the permutations afforded in making origami, Florence experimented with different configurations of 16 squares and the 32 equilateral triangles which resulted in the folding of paper mockups. Three years later in 2014, this concept of 16/32 was expanded into a collection of four similar glass origami sculptures for the International Furniture Fair in Singapore. An origami-style lamp and an end-table were created together with fellow glass artists Woo Meng Fye and established art educator and designer Ash Yeo. Unfortunately, the original sculptures were damaged and have since been removed from Scotts Square. conceptStory Other Case Studies otherCaseStudies

Back to All Happenings Synergraphic Design Unveils Finest Collection of Rare Stones in Glass; Changing the Game in the Design Industry Photo Credit: Singapore, Singapore, 14 July 2020 – Internationally renowned art+design studio and glass expert, Synergraphic Design PTE LTD (Synergraphic), is all set to present its wealth of design collections this year. The first to take the centre stage is their newest signature brand, Earth Tales Vol II, a finest selection of rare stones in glass. Synergrahic’s Director, Ms Sara Ang, expressed enthusiasm about the unveiling of Earth Tales Vol II, “We have big expectations that Earth Tales Vol II will be a great contribution to the design industry. It can be used in variety of new methods to turn ideas into reality. Every piece in the collection is powerfully creative.” Earth Tales Vol II is brought by passionate photographers who have journeyed to uncover mined gems and stones, and upon careful curating, polished and photographed each one in extremely high-resolution in order, to preserve and perpetuate its beauty into different living spaces. “The unique inherent colours, brilliance and swirls in every stone in this collection give it an edge over any design out in the market today. From subtle neutral palettes to intricate sophisticated ones, the stones can perfectly create a stunning or subdued atmosphere, and establish an adventurous or laidback mood. It can highlight a feature such as a countertop or backsplash, or fill an entire surface to complement the overall look and feel of a space,” Sara shared. Three unique series to meet different preferences Synergraphic’s Operations Manager, Ms Becky Chan, shared that the three series in the Earth Tales Vol II collections are uniquely catering to different lifestyle requirements and design preferences. “We are featuring three distinct series; Italian Soul, French Soul, Greek Soul, to cover the major style demands in the market today. We want to be close to the consumers’ design needs and consequently service the market better,” she shared. The Italian Soul delivers uncommon color palette and otherworldly patterns tipped with a rustic touch, fit to smart contemporary designs. The French Soul has that chic French flair and embodies class and refined craftsmanship through prints of highly effective uniformity. The Greek Soul is for those who relish pared-down style centered on simplicity, minimalism and functionality. This series showcases rich blends of textures and colours, offset by clean lines. “Panels from the three series are high quality prints on glass, making them a wonderful substitute for real stone in applications requiring lightweight properties such as skylights and lifts. Panels are also available for configuration in size, scale and orientation, as well as translucency and reflectivity, making them extremely versatile for a wide range of applications. As every piece is applied uniquely, these panels provide an alluring point of interest and continued source of inspiration for the home, office, retail, and hospital or hotel space,” highlighted Becky. Meeting the market’s changing lifestyle Synergraphic longs to continue enlarging their product line - having to create new collections and renditions to meet the market’s changing lifestyle needs. “Glass is often underrated - if we are to talk about the magic it brings to a space. The real reason behind this is the lack of awareness on the huge possibilities in design that can be achieved by combining art and function in glass. We, at Synergraphic, seek to always work toward a bright future of design by coming up with perfect glass art solutions and making them available to the world of design and architecture. Earth Tales Vol II is one of those many solutions we long to release in the market,” shared Sara. “People can expect more from us. Keeping our product range fresh is what makes us one of the most exciting glass sources in the industry,” added Sara. Today more than ever, the role glass plays in design has grown exponentially because of the skilful combination of art, function, and technology. Synergraphic will continue to support this by unleashing the many more hidden potential of glass as an effective part of interior and architectural solutions,” she ended. Earth Tales Vol II Launch will be held online on 21 July 2020, with a webinar hosted by Sara and her mom, Florence Ng, the founder of Synergraphic Design and a veteran Singaporean artist who is known for her excellent glass artworks here and abroad. Skillfully put a vase in a space and see magic Home / Design Ideas / Picture-perfect Vases Picture-perfect Vases Skillfully put a vase in a space and see magic Transforming Spaces with Decorative Vases As more and more people prefer modern design elements in their home interiors, the good old decors tend to be growing less and less popular. One good example is vases. These delicate pieces have been in our homes for centuries and we have seen how our grandmothers care for and adore them. It is sad how the modern minimalist and contemporary style trends tend to cast these wonderful pieces aside. They have been replaced by metal sculptures, pop artworks, and many other types of “newer” decors. In reality, vases are the unsung heroes of interior design. They come in virtually all shapes, sizes, colors, textures, and materials. They add style and character to any table, countertop, or just about any space. Vases are truly wonderful design elements that you should not sleep on. Here are some ideas and tips on decorating your home with vases. 1/1 DISPLAY AS BOLD ACCENTS Add a pop of color on a boring front door by using a large bright colored vase. The boldness and sheer size of it will serve as a cheerful welcome sign to family and guests. How about putting twin vases on both sides of the door? SPICE UP YOUR STAIR LANDING Your stair’s landing is another prime spot for an accent. A trio of elegant wooden vases of different heights, for instance, can add more drama to a modern staircase. Consider matching them with some lush indoor plants. PERK UP A LONELY CORNER Large vases can turn a plain corner into a focal point. You can decorate it with simple twigs or hang an artwork on top to make the area look more interesting. Just a tip: those old clay pots with distressed look will never fail you! LIVEN UP THE MANTLE Awkward mantles deserve some sprucing up. And what better way to do it than placing a group of vases! You can go for vases of different tones or sizes and match them with some fresh flowers or maybe family photos. MIX IT WITH SOME GREENERIES Vases are not just for blooms. Green foliage and stems also look great on them. Clear vases, for instance, are perfect for decorative green leaves. They look clean and work well as accents on tables and hallways. 1/1 These are only some of the thousands of ways to decorate with vases. The next time you shop for vases, get good pieces that you can easily mix and match with other decors you have at home. Also, don’t just focus on aesthetics; find pieces of good quality so they can last for a long time. Lastly, go for classic vase shapes and designs for they don’t go out of style. - The Power of Mirrors
Turn a plain wall to an artsy corner in an instant Home / Design Ideas / The Power of Mirrors The Power of Mirrors Turn a plain wall to an artsy corner in an instant Never Underestimate the Power of Mirrors – Here’s Why Mirrors are known as a bathroom and bedroom essential, but not a lot of people know that these fixtures actually make excellent interior design features. They don’t just reflect light and create an illusion of space, but also accentuate spaces and influence a room’s overall look and feel. They make walls look more alive, rooms brighter, and any given space more dramatic. 1/1 THE MIRROR EFFECT There are many ways to use mirrors for home interior design. Its versatility as a fixture and feature allows it to be used in any kind of room, open space, or nook and cranny of a house. This ubiquitous looking glass also comes in various shapes and sizes. And it is easy to find mirror pieces that go well with just about any interior style – from coastal themes to modern minimalist. Furthermore, mirror decors add character to a room or area. Designer mirrors, for instance, can lend an air of sophistication to any simple room. Unique and luxurious pieces instantly become focal points. They can be found in different styles that suit any existing interior design and homeowner’s personality. FROM BORING TO STUNNING A plain, lifeless wall can become a lot more interesting with the help of a mirror. You can use it to illuminate the space facing the wall, create a more open and spacious feel, or simply transform the wall from boring to stunning. You can also partner it with other design features such as table lamps, vases, and artworks. Wall mirrors can also be used to dictate the center or create a sense of balance in the room. While you can always play with design elements and go eclectic with your interiors, it is smart to use mirrors to achieve symmetry and harmony. Mirrors when used properly can bind elements together, so it pays to consider finding an ideal piece. CHOOSING YOUR MIRROR While mirrors in general are wonderful pieces to have in your living space, you would want to find pieces that can actually do the trick and the magic for you. To choose the perfect mirror, you have to think about different factors – the amount of available space, your existing interior style, your personal taste, and of course functionality. Round mirrors, for example, lend a softer feel to angular rooms. Framed designer mirrors are excellent if you want to make a statement. Table top mirrors go well for smaller rooms, whereas floor mirrors are perfect for spacious areas. Some manufacturers are even open to customization just in case you are very particular with the size, shape, and framing of your mirror. 1/1 There are plenty of options out there so don’t get overwhelmed. It all boils down to two main considerations when buying a mirror: style and function. Keep these two things in mind so you can find the perfect mirror for your home.
